We founded Speedbird Offshore Yacht Club in 1972, when a small group of sailors came together with the belief that offshore sailing and racing demanded more than a traditional weekend marina club could offer. Originally established as the British Airways Yacht Club, we became fully independent in 2016 and are now wholly owned and managed by our members.

We have grown from a small group of RAF officers to a thriving community of more than 300 members. From beginners taking their first RYA courses to experienced offshore sailors racing the Fastnet, Speedbird has a place for every level of sailor.

As an RYA-recognised training centre since 2009, we provide high-quality practical instruction designed to develop safe, confident and competent sailors. Our year-round programme makes excellent sailing and professional training accessible at competitive prices.
Our Fleet
Two dedicated offshore yachts.
We operate two fully equipped offshore yachts available to all members — from day sails on the Solent to extended Channel passages. Both yachts are maintained to the highest standard and fully RYA compliant throughout the year.
